5/11/12 Weyerbacher Insanity

After a rough week and not getting to drink much beer I'm getting back in the swing of things. Last night I decided to try a beer I received from one of my RZA teammates. I decided on Weyerbacher Insanity. My review sheet got soaked when I was kayaking today but luckily I still can read everything. The temperature was 40.9 degrees with an average head size of 1 46/64" and a fizzy light brown head appearance. The head dissipated slowly with medium carbonation. The clarity was murky with a copper color. The aroma was caramel with a bourbon taste and a long finish length. If I hadn't known better I would have sworn I was drinking whiskey and water. The mouth feel was creamy with a back tongue hit and excellent body lacing. My recommendation is if you like whiskey or bourbon you will love this beer because you'll never know the difference except for not getting drunk quite as quick. Thanks for reading and as always drink responsibly.

Insanity

Insanity is made by aging our perfectly balanced Blithering Idiot Barleywine in oak bourbon casks. This incredible combination creates a mélange of flavors from rich malts, raisons, and dates to oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Insanity will be yours this February!!!
Insanity is 11.1% ABV. It is best enjoyed in a brandy snifter and served at 45-55ºF.

  2. Frosted glass? Why for? And 46/64 is also known as 23/32. Also Also known as 92/128... you could also just round to the nearest x/32 and get somewhere around 3/4 of an inch. In beer, though, couldn't you just say that it was 'a good head'? How was your pour? WHY is the GLASS FROSTED!?!?!?!? Chilled properly, me thinks this should be served at 55 degrees (that's 285.927778 kelvin or 12.777778 Celsius).

Just messing with ya. You should seriously consider having it at 55 degrees or room temp and pouring it into a dry or lightly water-rinsed room temperature glass. A WHOLE new beer.

    Cheers!

  3. The whole 46/64 came about because of a colleague of mine who thought I should have insanely accurate measurements. I measure super accurate when it fits my fancy. As for the frosted glass, I guess that is more of tradition than anything else. Every beer I have reviewed has been in a frosted glass except when unavailable. It did have a very nice pour though and as for my particular view on the beer. On styles that are not my favorite I try and just review what I taste and see and not impart whether I like it or not because I feel it would be unfair to that style to discourage others from drinking it.
