I was talking to a friend at work about
Young's Double Chocolate Stout on Sunday and low and behold the beer fairy (Dr. J who picked it up at
Wegman's in Collegeville) dropped it off and I found it on my stove Monday morning. So I put it in my fridge to chill properly all day and when I came home I put a pint glass in the freezer so I would have the proper glass for this elegant stout. I finished my super and had it as more of a desert beer with some semi sweet chocolate chips because I didn't have anything that would pair nicely on hand and I was day dreaming about this beer all day long and I couldn't wait any longer. When I opened it up I heard the traditional sound of opening a nitrogen infused beer and then I poured it into my pint glass and took pictures that truly captured the eruption that occurs in your glass. It poured at a cool 42.3 degrees and had a small head near 1/4" that was fizzy and dark. The head lacing was excellent and the head dissipated slowly. The carbonation was lively and the body clarity was dark. I mean you could see anything through this beer even when it was held up to a light. The body color was black and the aroma and taste were a chocolate coffee combination. The flavor was light and the finish was long. I could actually feel it going through my digestive tract like blood flowing through my veins. It had a creamy mouth feel and hit my tongue in the front with excellent body lacing. The can says at the top pure luxury and that is exactly what this beer is. It totally lived up to my expectations and receives an easy A. Thanks for reading and as always drink responsibly.
