11/13/11 Sierra Nevada Summerfest

Tonight I had a Sierra Nevada Summerfest which is another beer that I got from Brewers' Outlet in Pottsville a little over a week ago. I know its not summer but I was feeling like a summer beer with my veggie burger and french fries. I am trying to become vegan but my wife's cooking is making it difficult because she doesn't always read the labels and got veggie burgers with egg whites in them. Summerfest came in at a temperature of 42 degrees somewhat balmy but not bad. The head was an average 2 inches with a white foamy appearance that dissipated slowly. It had excellent head lacing with little carbonation and a sparkling yellow color. The aroma had a citrus quality and a burnt taste. The flavor was moderate and on the bitter side. It had an average finish and left my mouth have a watery feel. The Body lacing was good and I would say it was pretty similar to Saranac's Bohemian Pilsner but with a little more bite. Overall I would give it a B for the bitterness but other than that it was a good beer that went somewhat well with the meal. Also remember your can opener because its not a twist off.

Our Summerfest® is a refreshing, pilsner-style lager. Its incredible smoothness comes from an extra-long lagering period. Lighter in body than our ales but just as complex in character, Summerfest® quenches your thirst with big aroma and a tangy hop bite.
