11/3/11 Harpoon Raspberry Hefeweizen UFO

Today I stopped by Brewers' Outlet in Pottsville and once again found some fantastic beers that I had to try before I finished off the Saranac 12 beers of winter. The beer I chose is brewed by Harpoon and the beer is the Raspberry Hefeweizen UFO. I had it in a 12oz bottle chilled to cold 26.3 degrees. It had an off white fizzy head with an average size of 2 inches that dissipates quickly. The beer has virtually no carbonation  and a muddy copper colored body. It has an orange raspberry taste and aroma. The flavor is light with an average finish length that hits the tongue in the back. The body lacing is fair and the beer is definitely drinkable. I would definitely drink this beer again and would say it has an excellent memorable. I would strongly recommend stopping by Brewers' Outlet in Pottsville and trying this variety its a great beer at a great price that is definitely different from your average beer. Overall I would rate it an A to A- for the fact that it is different and easy to drink with a great taste.  Once again thanks for reading and as always drink responsibly.
The following information I found on the Harpoon website.

BEER CHARACTERISTICS - UFO RASPBERRY HEFEWEIZEN
We have added natural raspberry flavor to our UFO Hefeweizen to create this beer.  Consistent with the hefeweizen style, this beer is unfiltered and cloudy with a solid foamy head.  UFO Raspberry has a distinctive, hazy rose color.  The scent of fresh raspberries hits the nose immediately, along with a subtle bready aroma from the wheat and yeast.  The body is light and the unfiltered yeast provides a soft mouthfeel.  The taste of the fruit compliments the beer nicely, neither overwhelms the other.  There is a faint sweetness on the palate, which finishes cleanly in a semi-dry, tart finish.

Hefeweizens originated in Bavaria and date back over 400 years.  Hefemeans yeast in German, Weizen means wheat.  The unfiltered yeast remains in suspension, giving this style its signature cloudy color and a soft mouthfeel.
